Noise cancellation in an oversaturated world
We would like to believe that we are well informed, like to believe that we are on the cutting edge, that we understand the latest trends and fads of how to get ahead or to make money, however the truth is a much more distorted picture. We live in a globalised village, shrunk by constant innovation and technological development, yet we are still living in different time zones, and it is these time zones with which we must concern ourselves with. These time zones refer to time zones of development not physical location. Each country and continent are in a different zone, and news of a new breakthrough and its implementation in different places does not always reach everybody, only those who are able to cancel out the noise.
The need to cancel out the unnecessary and live from the essential is paramount in a saturated world, as much as is needed to separate principles from methods. Methods to success always change and yet principles never do. One of the fundamental principles of modern economics is understanding different ways of generating value and making money. It is an interesting exercise to look at how cryptocurrency and the NFT space has changed our perception of what can be valuable. People earn thousands in cryptocurrency by selling pixelated art which is all based on how people perceive value. It is interesting to note that within these digital worlds, it is speculation and perceived value that are stronger indicators of value rather than traditional economic principles. Yet, despite the world being turned on its head by new forms of value generation many persist to earn a living through working, not realising the power of creating in an age that favours the creator over the worker. This boils down to education and habit.
The noise of being entertained, daily work, daily concern about mundane affairs, often inhibits our intuition from picking up and stepping into new opportunities. Thus, we need noise cancellation, to cancel the noise of unrealistic expectations and out-dated wisdom in a world that is continuously and increasingly more disruptive, decentralised, and digital.
We need noise cancellation so that we can hear the voice of opportunity, take a risk towards a new direction and reach out to new horizons created by new technologies, forms of communication, community and new ways of understanding the world that we never considered before.
Yet, we can only hope to hear the voice of new opportunity if we cancel the noise of the machinations and systems of society that keep us enslaved.
